Introduction

You can secure access to the BigMIND desktop application by setting a passcode. Once enabled, the application will prompt for this passcode whenever you try to open, uninstall, or restore data.

This option is only available on Windows machines.

 

Enable/Disable the Lock via the BigMIND Desktop Application

1. Open the BigMIND desktop application and click on the Settings button.

2. In the opened Settings window, click on Preferences.

3. In the opened Preferences window, refer to the General tab.

  • To enable the lock, click the Enable Software Lock button. A new window will be opened asking you to enter the passcode (numbers only). Enter it and click OK. You will then be asked to confirm it by entering the same digits again. Please do and click OK. Click the Save icon at the lower-right corner of the Preferences window to save your changes.
  • To disable the lock, click the Disable Software Lock button. You will be asked to enter the current passcode. Enter it and click OK. Click the Save icon at the lower-right corner of the Preferences window to save your changes.

 

Remove the BigMIND Lock

If you forget the BigMIND passcode, you can remove it completely via the BigMIND web console.

1. Log in to your BigMIND web console as an admin user. If you are not an admin user under the BigMIND account, please contact the admin user.

2. Go to the Users / Servers page.

3. On the left-side panel of the Manage Users / Servers page, click on Computers. All the computers that are currently added to this account will be shown.

4. Locate the computer which you need to remove the passcode for → Click on its Actions button → Remove Passcode.

5. Confirm your request.

The BigMIND desktop application on the target computer needs up to 15 minutes to automatically synchronize and apply the changes. You can speed up the process by doing a manual synchronization.

 

Enable/Disable the Lock via the BigMIND Web Console

This approach is exclusively accessible within the Business edition of BigMIND.

1. Sign in to your BigMIND web console as an admin user.

2. From the left-side menu, click Policies.

3. Create a new policy, or select to edit an existing one.

4. On the policy editor page, refer to the Privileges tab and scroll down to the Client Privileges section:

  • To enable the lock, select the Add client passcode option, and enter a 4-digit passcode. Save the policy.
  • To disable the lock, switch from using the Add client passcode option to using the Customize BigMIND Privileges one, and Save the policy.

The passcode has a grace period of five minutes. After entering the passcode and opening the BigMIND client, the application will not request the passcode again for at least five minutes.
