Introduction

The Pending list in the BigMIND desktop application contains files scheduled for backup during the next backup run. Once a file is successfully backed up to the Cloud, it is removed from the Pending list by the BigMIND desktop application.

Searching the Pending Files

To search the Pending list in BigMIND, follow these steps:

  1. Open the BigMIND desktop application.
  2. If there are files on the Pending list, the count will be displayed on the Dashboard. Click on that number to open the Pending Files window.
  3. Type the search string in the Search Pending Files field and press Enter or click the Search button. The search results will be displayed.

Skipping a Pending File

To delay the backup of a specific file currently in the Pending list until the next backup run, follow these steps:

  1. Open the BigMIND desktop application and click the Pending list.
  2. Select the target file.
  3. Click the Skip button.

The file will be immediately removed from the Pending list and will reappear there in the next backup run.

Removing a Pending File

If you no longer want to back up a specific file in the Pending list, you can remove it and prevent BigMIND from trying to back it up in the future:

  1. Open the BigMIND desktop application and click the Pending list.
  2. Select the target file.
  3. Click the Remove button.

The file will be instantly removed from the Pending list and added to the Auto Exclude list.

Files in the Pending List Not Getting Backed Up

If a file remains in the Pending list with an exclamation icon next to it, BigMIND might be unable to back it up. Here are common reasons and solutions:

A. Outdated BigMIND Desktop Application

Repair the BigMIND installation as follows:

  1. Download the latest BigMIND setup file:
    – For Windows: BigMINDSetup.exe
    – For macOS: BigMIND.pkg
  2. Run the downloaded setup file and select the Repair/Update option.

B. Files Backed Up via Block-Level Technology

BigMIND uploads Block Level files once every 24 hours. Wait for some time, and these files will be uploaded.

C. BigMIND Unable to Copy Files

This issue occurs if the BigMIND desktop application fails to copy files to the cache folder. Ensure there is enough free space on the drive that holds the cache folder.

D. Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS)

BigMIND uses VSS to back up open and locked files. Add frequently open files to the VSS extensions list to ensure they are backed up. (Learn more)

Also, check if this service is running or needs repair. Follow the steps here if needed.

E. Permission Issues

Ensure you have full or at least read permission on the file, folder, or directory you want to back up.

F. Network or External Drive Issues

Make sure the network or external drive where the files are originally saved is connected, accessible, and not in use by other processes. The VSS service does not operate on files stored on external and network drives.

G. Failed to Upload

If files remain in the Pending list due to upload issues:

  1. Check your Internet connection and router settings to ensure they do not prevent BigMIND from uploading files.
  2. Check your firewall and exclude BigMIND from being scanned by your antivirus.

BigMIND will attempt to re-upload these files on each run. If the issue persists, contact support at bigmindsupport@genie9.com.
