Introduction

By default, BigMIND utilizes any available Internet connection during data upload. However, you can customize it to use specific connections only.

How to Customize the Backup Connection

Method 1: Using the BigMIND Desktop Application

  1. Open the BigMIND desktop application.
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Select the Connection option from the left-side menu.
  4. Choose the type of connection you prefer BigMIND to use when uploading data. There are three options, and you can select more than one:
    • Wired connection (LAN).
    • Wireless connection (WiFi): You can also create a WiFi Safelist to specify which WiFi connections BigMIND is allowed to use if you have multiple WiFi connections.
    • Mobile connection (PPP, 3G, 4G, etc.).
  5. Enable the Backup over metered connection option if desired.
A metered connection is an Internet connection where data usage is tracked and limited by the service provider. This typically involves a data cap, where exceeding the allocated data limit results in additional charges or reduced connection speeds. Metered connections are commonly associated with mobile data plans and some broadband services. Enabling the backup over metered connection allows BigMIND to perform data uploads even when connected to a network with data usage restrictions, but it’s important to monitor data consumption to avoid unexpected charges.
  6. Click the Save icon.

Method 2: From the BigMIND Website

This approach is exclusively accessible within the Business edition of BigMIND.
  1. Sign in to your BigMIND web console as an admin user.
  2. From the left-side menu, click Policies.
  3. Create a new policy, or select to edit an existing one.
  4. Under the Settings tab, and from the General Settings section, select the type of connection you prefer BigMIND to use when uploading the data from under the Only allow BigMIND to upload on option. There will be three (3) options there, and you can select more than one of them:
    • Wired connection (LAN).
    • Wireless connection (WiFi)
    • 3G connection (PPP).
  5. Click the Save button.
